Alex James is an up and coming photographer and artist from London, England.

He recently began taking photos when he inherited his step dads old camera late last year. He then spent the majority of his time in quarantine practicing how to use it

When he arrived back in LA at the end of May, the protests had started. That’s when he took his equipment to capture what was happening.

The images captured during the Black Lives Matter Protests put Alex James into the spotlight. With many of his images being shared by different media outlets on multiple online platforms. The incredibly powerful, touching and heartwarming moments were recorded with both his drone and his digital camera.

With an innate ability to read the crowds and predict situations amongst the busy protests, he was able to maneuver himself into perfect positions, allowing for photos from remarkable perspectives portraying the scale and raw energy of the crowd in an interesting and unique way. Giving the audience the chance to get a glimpse into the emotional intensity of the recent protests as if they were there themselves.

After receiving really positive feedback on the photos, Alex felt that he could do something more than just sharing the photos online and do something to potentially help the community in a more significant way.

Alex handpicked the most impactful and meaningful photos as well as the shots he is most proud to present. All of which have been custom printed and framed as 1 of 1 artist proof edition. They will be for public sale on 18th of September at Wonzimer Gallery in an exhibition appropriately titled “Rise Up”.

All profits of the exhibition will go to Charity. The selected foundation “9 Dots” teaches children in the Los Angeles and Compton Unified school districts how to code. A skill believed to help the children tremendously in the future as humanity continues to progress into a digital age.
